This is definitely the most ambitious track I've ever made. I wanted to do something big. Not just sonically, or in length (not to brag but 7.5 minutes is pretty impressive lol) but also lyrically.
For some reason, I had this idea since I was a little kid that I would die at age 16. And it wasn't really anything I was worried about until I actually turned 16 and was like "well shit, what if I actually do die?!". And so I wrote a song about that and called it "Take Care". A few months later I realized that a) thinking you're going to die at 16 for no reason is actually and literally crazy, and b) if I am somehow fated to die, why would I spend the last months of my life moping and feeling sorry for myself? And so I wrote a song about that, and I thought that they sounded really nice together, so I made them into one giant song! (The individual songs are also available as singles if you like)
Now I'm 17 and I can say that I am deeply not-dead, which is kind of funny. Like, you spend your whole life worrying about something happening and then it doesn't. It's a bit underwhelming. It's like "oh.... of course I'm not dead."
Hope you enjoy! :)
lyrics
Crisscross
I see the future
A premonition
Big boss
Do you have a question?
You're looking at me
Take care
You won't get messed up if you stay here
You've only got sixteen so take care
You can't be alive if you stay here
I'm counting on both hands
Light fire
I think I'm done now
I watch as it burns
Nighttime
Dots on the ceiling
I'm so far from done
You gave me a will and I'll give it away
You gave me a will and I'll give it away
You gave me a will and I'll give it away
You gave me a will and I'll give it away
Sit down
I'll forget it
Fed up with the times I've reread it
Oh
Big go
If I'm fated
I wouldn't notice these ribbons are braided
Through my hair
If I only get sixteen
Then why would I sleep for it?
I'll be grown
I'll forget it
Satisfied with the times I've confessed it
Oh
I want fast!
Something open
I want too bright and lights that I've chosen
Oh
Stare at yourself
(Well of course you would)
You shut your mouth
(Well of course you should)
A narcissist
(Well of course you are)
You ain't the shit!
(No one's listening)
You'll be alright
(Well of course you will)
You'll sleep at night
(Well of course you)
No one's the sun
(You're just scared to death)
No one's the sun
(You're just scared of death)
